Effect of salt on expression of resistance in some domestic and foreign strawberry cultivars

Abstract

This study was carried out in order to determine the effect of NaCl on runner plant production and tolerance level of some strawberry cultivars [the native cultivars; of Arnavutkoy, Yalova-15 (Y15), Yalova-104 (Y104), Yalova- 416 (Y416) which are cross bred cultivars of "Arnavutkoy x Aliso" and the foreign cultivars Douglas, Aliso and Dorit (216)]. The strawberry plants were grown in the bags filled with a substrate mixture [11.11% agro perlit, 66.66% peat of Yenicag and 22.22% sand] and were irrigated with water continuously at various levels of salt [control (1000), 2500, 5000, 7500, 10000 mumol l(-1) NaCl] under glasshouse conditions.
