Özet
Mediterranean coastal cities, long distinguished by their rich cultural heritage, are increasingly exposed to the escalating impacts of climate change. This paper posits that climate change exerts multifaceted pressures on the conservation and management of cultural heritage sites, necessitating a critical reassessment of existing preservation policies. Methodologically, the study adopts a comparative approach grounded in recent academic literature, international reports, and a conceptual framework analysis. The impacts of climate change on cultural heritage are examined through key risk categories, including sea-level rise, coastal erosion, extreme heat, drought, wildfires, and other extreme weather events. Findings reveal that climate change not only undermines the physical integrity of historical structures but also disrupts local community practices and the sustainability dynamics associated with tourism. These processes contribute to the overexploitation of heritage sites, weaken the balance between conservation and utilization, and jeopardize the intergenerational transmission of cultural assets. In conclusion, strategies for safeguarding cultural heritage in Mediterranean coastal cities must be reconfigured to address the multidimensional effects of climate change. The development of risk-based conservation policies, the implementation of climate-adaptive management models, and the adoption of interdisciplinary approaches are identified as critical measures for ensuring the long-term sustainability of cultural heritage
