Abstract

Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) process is a technique widely used in many industrial fields such as automotive, aerospace, medical and manufacturing industries. MAO coating process enhances the materials wear resistance and increases their service life in various environments. In this study, experimental tests were applied on statically loaded (250 N) journal bearing test apparatus with eight different rotational velocities between 5 and 1000 rpm. During experiments used base oil (mineral lubricant) and 5% boron additive in 95% base oil mixture at 40 degrees C in order to realise the tribological properties of micro-arc oxidation (Al2O3) coated AA7075 alloyed journal bearing. Experimental study results show that the coated journal bearings exhibit significantly better coefficient of friction properties. Measured friction coefficient (mu) and observed microstructure of the journal bearings surfaces using with microscopy. Finally, friction coefficient data and microstructures of the journal bearing were evaluated.
