Today's consumption habits have a complex structure shaped by multidimensional motivations such as the pursuit of pleasure and emotional satisfaction beyond meeting basic needs. In this context, the plan- ned obsolescence strategy, where brands deliberately shorten product lifespans to encourage consump- tion, is a significant factor in directing consumer behavior. To make sense of this strategy, it is crucial to examine the different dimensions of consumption and consumer motivations. This study, aiming to illuminate these dynamics, investigates the relationship between consumers' perceptions of planned ob- solescence and their unplanned purchasing, hedonic, and utilitarian consumption behaviors. The rese- arch, based on a correlational survey model, was conducted with data collected from 639 participants via an online questionnaire, and the data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Ac- cording to the research findings, it was determined that hedonic consumption tendencies positively inc- rease unplanned purchasing, while utilitarian consumption tendencies negatively affect both hedonic consumption and unplanned purchasing behavior. The findings also showed that utilitarian consump- tion tendencies and unplanned purchasing behavior positively predict consumers' perception of planned obsolescence. It was concluded that hedonic consumption does not have a significant effect on the per- ception of planned obsolescence. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of consumer beha- vior and provide important data to guide brands in developing their marketing strategies.
