Özet
AIM or PURPOSE: Graphene oxide is a material used in the
strengthening of dental materials. The study aimed to evalu-
ate the effect of adding graphene oxide on the compressive
strength of RMGIC.
MATERIALS and METHOD: Experimental RMGIC was pre-
pared by adding graphene oxide to the powder of RMGIC (Fuji
II LC, GC) with different weight ratios (1, 3, and 5 wt%). The
ten specimens were prepared from each test group (4 mm in
diameter and 6 mm in height) and stored in distilled water at
37°C for 24 h before testing. The compressive strength test
was carried out using the universal testing machine that had
a crosshead speed of 1.0 mm/min (Autograph AGS-X, Shi-
madzu). The specimens were placed with their flat ends
between the plates of the testing machine, so the progres-
sively increasing compressive load was applied along the
long axis of the specimens. The compressive strength was
calculated by recording the maximum load when the speci-
mens fractured. The data were statistically analyzed using
one-way ANOVA, followed by Tukey’s post hoc test (p=0.05).
RESULTS: Adding 1% graphene oxide did not affect the com-
pressive strength of RMGIC (p>0.05). Adding 3 and 5% gra-
phene oxide increased the compressive strength of RMGIC
(p<0.05). The highest compressive strength was observed in
the 5% graphene oxide added group (p<0.05).
CONCLUSION(S): Adding graphene oxide to the powder of
RMGIC increased its compressive strength depending on the
adding ratio. Increasing the graphene oxide in the powder
may improve the compressive strength.
