Özet
This study valorized industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) cultivated in sewage sludge–biochar–amended soils for the production of high-purity cellulose and cellulose acetate (CA). Hemp grown under five soil treatments were evaluated for fiber tensile properties, while isolated cellulose was characterized by FTIR, SEM, and XRD. Sludge–biochar amendment produced cellulose with the highest crystallinity index (87.36%), indicating effective removal of non-cellulosic constituents and enhanced cellulose purification efficiency. This cellulose was acetylated to produce CA with a degree of substitution of 2.66, consistent with cellulose diacetate. Acetylation reduced crystallinity to 12.5%, while FTIR confirmed successful esterification through characteristic carbonyl and C–O–C bands. SEM analysis revealed distinct morphological transformation throughout fiber processing, cellulose isolation, and acetylation. These findings suggest that sewage sludge-biochar amendment may support the development of renewable cellulose-based materials with potential relevance for value-added biopolymer and biomaterial applications.
