Özet
In the face of cultural change, societies strive to protect the cultural elements that constitute their identity. Among these elements, material cultural assets have an important place with their movable and immovable qualities. While carpets and rugs are movable cultural assets that reflect the cultural accumulation of the material and spiritual worlds of societies, they are also considered within the scope of intangible cultural heritage with their traditional structures. Carpets and rugs are documents of a deep-rooted tradition reflecting our culture. Beyond being a part of social life with their functions, they are one of the elements that reveal the cultural identity of societies with their qualities showing the design understanding and aesthetic taste of the period in which they were produced. Weavings, which are difficult to protect with their organic structure, are cultural elements that can strengthen the bond with the society and the culture to which they belong.
Carpets and rugs, which have a special place in our weaving tradition, are valued in museums and private collections depending on the cultural, historical and artistic value they carry and contribute to universal culture. In order to transfer these works to future generations without losing their value, it is important to determine the cultural value they carry and to determine the right approach in terms of conservation and repair. Depending on the cultural value of the carpet or rug to be repaired, the procedures and applications to be carried out may vary. For the repair of a weaving used for decorative purposes in daily life, it is a priority to regain its function.
In the light of all this information, in this study, it was tried to introduce the repair techniques of carpets and rugs in three stages: pre-repair, repair processes and post-repair finishing processes. Studies were carried out in Cengiz Akkuş restoration workshop in Isparta and Akasaray Sultanhanı Mustafa Solak restoration workshops in order to document the subject by applying literature research, qualitative research methods and field research method.
