Comparıson Of 12-14 Year-Old Athletes And Non-Athletes Chıldren’s State And Traıt Anxıety Levels

In this study, the effect of regular exercise on 12-14 year-old children’s state and
trait anxiety levels was investigated. The research groups were selected 500
children from 15 school in Kütahya. 212 sportsmen, 288 non-sportsmen children
were participated in our study. In this research, to collect information of the
candidates and to determine personal information form and anxiety level, The
Anxiety Inventory - STAI, proposed by Spielberger was used. STAI was
performed before the pilot examinations throughout the school . After reviewing
the obtained data with Shapiro Wilks normality test, it was analyzed by t test and
One Way Anova test.
Compared to children axiety levels according to gender, both state anxiety and
trait axiety were lower in men than in women (p<0,05). An evaluation in
accordance with the age of children, while state anxiety level was found
significantly diversity, there is no significant difference in trait anxiety. In
evaluation of the children according to whether athletes or not, athlete’s both
state axiety and trait axiety levels were find out lower (p<0,05).
According to the results obtained, there are positive effects of regular exercise
and being competitor athletes on anxiety.
