Abstract

Colorectal carcinoma is ranked 4th after breast, prostate and lung cansers. Etiology of carcinomas includes heredity, nutrition, radiation, adenomatous polypes, inflammatory intestinal disease. Linum Usitatissimum is annual cultivated plant. It contains lots of good quality protein and α-linolenic acid and also it is natural source of flavonoids, which are knows, lignin and fenolic acid. Linum Usitatissimum is also the main source of secoisolariciresinol diglukoside (SDG). Linum Usitatissimum have also anticancer, antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties. We planed to investigate the apoptotic effects of secoisolariciresinol diglıcoside whic is the extract of Linum Usitatissimum on cells of human colon carcinoma cell lines CCL-228-SW - 480 in both two and three dimensional culture conditions. In this context we planned to investigate cell proliferation and cell death cause of apoptosis. We proved that the extract of Linum Usitatissimum causes apoptosis on effective dose with TUNEL, BrdU, AIF and Caspase-3 analysis on colon carcinoma cell lines. Because of two and three dimensional culture our study is more comprehensive than other studies. İt’s clearly understood that Linum Usitatissimum’s extract, SDG, is beneficial to in colon cancer. We think that our studies helpful to further cancer studies. Also it will be beneficial for both patients health and treatment costs.
