In the Anatolian Yörük tradition, small livestock farming is not only an economic activity but also a rich cultural production field.

Weaving and knitting occupy an important place within this production relationship. In this context, weaving and knitting are considered

an important part of the social production structure, both in terms of their use in daily life and the aesthetic and cultural components they

embody. This study will examine the kilims woven in the Çal district and villages of Denizli, known as el koyunu bağı (hand-knitted) and

“Kilim Acısı” (kilim pain). The ethnographic research method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in this study.

Furthermore, semi-structured interviews were conducted with settled Yörük people living in the center and villages of Çal as a data

collection method. In this context, the application method of el koyunu bağı, the materials used, and “Kilim Acısı” were analyzed both

conceptually and through sample weavings during the literature review and field observations. The findings reveal that the “El Koyunu

Bağı” serves a functional and cultural purpose in nighttime sheep grazing in this region, while the “Kilim Acısı” is a concept used to cover

the coffin of a deceased person at home, which is then donated to the mosque to remember the loss, and it defines the kilims woven for this

purpose.

The “El Koyunu Bağı” is a traditional practice that carries cultural heritage value, despite its functional aspect in sheep grazing. “Kilim

Acısı”, on the other hand, is valuable in terms of describing the mortality-vitality state of the weaving. These two concepts have been

included in the weaving literature for the first time. The inclusion of these two concepts, examined in this article, is significant in terms of

their first appearance in the weaving literature. The weavings identified in the field research were documented and evaluated. It is

recommended that new concepts and identified examples in weaving research be addressed in all their aspects.
