Abstract

Monumental tombs, museums and visits to these places have an important role in the dark tourism. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the effects of the Democracy and Development Museum and the Mausoleum, built in the name of the 9th President of the Republic of Turkey, Süleyman Demirel, on İslamköy and the region from the perspective of dark tourism. The method of the study is based on case analysis, in other words, case study. In the study, first of all, a literature review was carried out on the subject, and then observations were made in the research area in the light of the literature. As a result of the literature review, it has been seen that no study has been carried out within the scope of dark tourism in the research region. In this respect, and also because the Süleyman Demirel Museum of Democracy and Development is the only example in Turkey, similar to the presidential museums in the United States, the study is important. In the research, it has been concluded that İslamköy has the potential of rural tourism as well as dark tourism. In addition, it can be said that as the demand for Islamköy, which hosts alternative tourism types, increases, tourism in the region will be spread over twelve months, and thus, tourism revenues will increase with the multiplier effect of the income to be obtained by the region.
