Özet

AIM or PURPOSE

It is aimed to evaluate the knowledge level and diagnostic consistency of the 4th and 5th grade students at Suleyman Demirel University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Periodontology, regarding the current classification of periodontal diseases and conditions.

MATERIALS and METHOD

The survey was administered to 4th and 5th grade students students via Google Forms on a voluntary basis. The first 10 questions are based on the knowledge level differences between the current and the previous classification. There are an additional 7 multiple-choice questions for making a diagnosis based on sample cases in which various clinical and radiological criteria are specified.

RESULTS

Out of a total of 250 students in 4th and 5th grades, 151 students voluntarily completed the questionnaire. It is noteworthy that the higher correct answer rate is observed in the questions that evaluate the diagnosis based on a sample case. Among the general knowledge questions, comparative questions had the least correct answer rate.

CONCLUSION(S)

The primary and indispensable condition for the correct treatment of periodontal and peri-implant diseases and conditions, which are very common worldwide, is adequate knowledge and diagnostic consistency. In this context, it is thought that the regulations to be made to help students who have received not only theoretical but also case-based education to reach a level where they can easily diagnose in clinical practice will be an important step in training well-equipped dentists.
