This study aimed to conduct a systematic review of academic publications published between 2010 and 2024, based on the assumption that older adults have been subjected to psychological and economic abuse through communication tools (such as phone and online applications). PRISMA-ScR criteria were used in the creation of the study protocol, and PICOS criteria were used in the selection of keywords. Full-text publications between 2014 and 2024 were reviewed. The literature search was conducted in PubMed, MEDLINE, EBSCO, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases. 1000 publications were reached as a result of the screening. Repeated studies and those that did not meet the exclusion criteria have been filtered out. After screening the titles, title, abstract and full text, the remaining publications were evaluated according to the inclusion and quality criteria. Twenty-three publications that met the inclusion criteria and marked “yes” in more than 50% of the JBI criteria were assessed. It was determined that elder abuse frequently occurs via phone and online applications. Elderly individuals are subjected to economic and psychological abuse in various ways through communication tools. Older adults are subjected to economic and psychological abuse in various ways through communication tools, suffering similarly damaging consequences as those associated with other types of exploitation. All forms of abuse against older adults need to be investigated comprehensively on the victimperpetrator axis. Various educational and social programs and policies need to be established to protect elderly individuals from abuse.
