We witnessed a rapid change in higher education in the 1990's, which has continued with a higher speed into the 2000's. These changes include, but not limited to, internationalization, massification, diversity, ICT revolutions, increased competition and collaboration, marketization, and new teaching and financing methods. This paper aims at reviewing the main trends and policies in higher education, and explores the dimensions of internationalization and the future of higher education. For this purpose, the change in the landscape of higher education and the roles and autonomy of higher education institutions are analyzed. (C) 2010 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
