Özet
Stones have an important place in world culture from the most primitive to the most developed communities. Stones can add an aesthetic and ergonomic value indoors and outdoors. They also had different uses in the past. They have various meanings in different cultures and were a significant part of social life in Ottoman culture. They are used with different functions for mosques, fountains, walls and inside many other building.
This study examined the samples of mounting stones, alms stones and stone lost and found niches in Burdur and Manisa as functional stones in Turkish culture. The places where these stones are located as well as the stones’ relationship between their environments were analyzed and evaluated along with the concept of cultural sustainability. It determined that ensuring the preservation and restoration of these kinds of stones will contribute to cultural sustainability.
