Özet

In this study, using the Pugh Total Design Method, a portable, radiation-free, low-cost computer-aided domestic spinal curvature measurement system (OmÖS) was designed, prototyped and integrated with the developed computer software for the measurement of sagittal plane thoracic and lumbar spinal curvatures on the skin. The developed measurement system is intended to be used primarily in screening studies in public areas such as schools and military barracks, and to assist clinicians in the preliminary evaluation of changes in thoracic and lumbar curvatures in clinics and in deciding whether lateral spinal radiographs are required for further evaluation. For preliminary measurement studies of OmÖS, 17 different pre-set thoracic and lumbar curvature angles were measured using a goniometer (GnM), OmÖS and inclinometer (InM) on a curvature-adjustable spine model. IBM SPSS Statistics 29.0 was used for statistical analysis of GnM, OmÖS and InM curvature angle results, and GnM curvature angle results were used as the reference for statistical comparisons. A statistically significant and very strong correlation, with high agreement, was found between GnM and OmÖS curvature angle results. Similarly, there was a statistically significant and strong correlation but low agreement between the thoracic curvature angle results of GnM and InM. Nevertheless, there was a weak correlation, although it is still statistically significant, and no agreement between GnM and InM lumbar curvature angle results. It was decided to proceed with the process of comparing the obtained curvature angle results with the radiographic Cobb angle results.
