Özet
Most of the existing reinforced concrete buildings have weaknesses such as low concrete strength,
insufficient transverse and longitudinal reinforcement, insufficient overlap length. In this study, the
effect of overlapping length change in reinforced concrete beam element on the behavior of that was
investigated experimentally. During the experiments, the vertical load and the displacement values at
the mid beam level were measured. Obtained results are presented with graphics. The load carrying
capacity, stiffness, ductility and energy consumption capacity of the beam elements were calculated by
using the graphics and comparisons were made. While ductile damage was observed in the reference
specimen and specimen with sufficient overlap length, brittle damage occurred in the sample with
insufficient overlap length. In case of insufficient overlap length, the specimen occured a sudden damage
before it could even reached its bending capacity. Therefore, the load capacity, energy consumption
capacity and ductility values of the specimen decreased in 28%, 96% and 84% ratios, respectively. This
situation causes brittle damage in reinforced concrete structural elements, which should be avoided in
particular.
