Özet
The 21st century has brought with it many problems, such as climate change, biodiversity loss,
upward urbanization momentum, socio-economic inequalities, and environmental degradation. Some
scientists have argued that we have now exceeded our planetary boundaries, and therefore have exited the
Holocene and entered a new era: the Anthropocene, based on these problems and many other challenges.
The Anthropocene, a period in which human activities have left permanent and irreversible traces on
our world, is not only a geological period but also a concept with sociological, economic, and political
dimensions. The challenges of the 21st century have also brought many challenges to urban planning.
Traditional planning models that prioritize economic growth and technological expansion have been
limited in addressing today’s challenges. In contrast, the Society 5.0 vision emerges as a transformative
framework that goes beyond being a solely technologically focused vision in order to emphasize human-
centered governance, sustainability, and urban resilience. While much of the literature on Society 5.0
focuses solely on technological development, this study reconsiders the Society 5.0 approach as a
comprehensive strategy for sustainable urban planning.
