Hardness is one of the fundamental parameters determining the physical behaviour of rocks, and this property directly influences several performance criteria in engineering applications, such as wear resistance, workability, and mechanical strength. While various methods have been developed for hardness determination; in this study, the Shore hardness (SH) values of rocks were measured using a C-2 type hardness tester. Within the scope of the study, SH measurements were conducted on nine different rock types of distinct geological origins in accordance with the experimental procedures recommended by the International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM). Measurements were performed on specimens in dry and water-saturated states, as well as before and after aging tests, defined as thermal shock and freeze–thaw cycles. In this context, the effects of water saturation, thermal shock, and freeze–thaw conditions on SH were systematically analyzed. Furthermore, a comparative evaluation was carried out to determine which conditions led to more pronounced changes in hardness values. The results of the study demonstrate that aging tests consistently caused a decrease in the SH values across all rock types. In particular, the SH values exhibited the most significant reduction in saturated rock specimens, whereas the smallest change in SH values was observed under thermal shock cycling conditions.
