This study examines the place and impact of the concept of truth in Nietzsche’s understanding of freedom. Rather than addressing freedom as an abstract notion, Nietzsche approaches it through a specific human archetype: the free individual. According to him, a free individual is one who can make autonomous decisions, wield and manage power, and embrace both the good and the bad in life, standing somewhere between the herd and the tragic individual. Freedom, therefore, represents both the actions of this human type and the standard by which they are measured. Nietzsche argues that there are certain obstacles to both freedom and the free individual, one of which is the demand for truth or the search for absolute truth. He contends that the pursuit of an ultimate truth is a significant barrier to human liberation. The imposition of various models of truth -such as religions presenting their own doctrines as absolute truth, the search for a fundamental arche as the source of existence, or the construction of an ideal world that devalues sensory experience—constitute, according to Nietzsche, nothing more than obstacles to freedom. In conclusion, this study finds that Nietzsche’s view on the influence of the concept of truth on freedom underscores that the quest for absolute truths has a detrimental role and impact on the process of liberation.
